My old programmable thermostat needed to be replaced for a while. Finally took the plunge and bought this. There were just two cables connected to my system. I decided to get a new transformer because I couldn’t figure out where the power would originate from my furnace controller. I bought a 24-volt DC (40 VA) item. Although the price difference wasn’t that large and I probably only needed 20Amps, I may eventually replace the Wyze thermostat in my other zone.

The Geo Lux had to be replaced since the WiFi kept disconnecting. One requirement was that the device fits between two door frames and be highly compact. This is much better and smaller than the Lux. It is possible to set up using Bluetooth in the app without switching to WiFi AP mode. Without touching it first, the display is turned on by a motion sensor. Since I just needed three cables, the setup wizard was excellent and allowed me to bypass most of the procedures (Rh, Wh, C).

It does have a control lock right out of the box, so if you want to just turn the knob to set the temperature, you must do the device’s settings and turn it off (not in the app). similar to having several accounts for control. All is well thus far.

Big things to know before we start. The best place to start before purchasing this item is the Wyze app. The app will ask you questions about the wyze thermostat when you click on it to make sure this one is a suitable fit. The installation process will then be guided for you (the box doesn’t give you much). The installation process is also available on YouTube as a video. I suggest taking a look at them, but aside from that, it is a wonderful tool, and having access to automation is very helpful.

Excellent compatibility with all of my other Wyze devices. I had to purchase a transformer plug because my system only had two wires, which would have allowed me to power the device from a wall outlet. Fortunately, the old thermostat’s location was just next to a wall with a socket; all that was required to run the power was a little hole in the wall.
