Although I appreciated the simplicity when I first started using Belkin/Wemo, they eventually became problematic and required more time for configuration than I had ever saved through automation. Setting up my Christmas lights this year was the final straw. I have one connected to Alexa that managed the outdoor lighting. The Wemo app claimed it was disconnected the other day, but strangely, Alexa had no issue turning it on and off. Despite resetting the switch, I was unable to make it appear in the Wemo iOS app.

It battled through the flashing light phase before connecting, letting me name it, then when I was done, it just disappeared. I decided it was time to replace my Wemos because I had a package of four Kasa switches that I had purchased on sale but hadn’t opened yet.

In less than 5 minutes, I had 2 Kasa switches installed, operational, and linked to Alexa. Okay, 6 minutes maybe. Simple as pie; no problem. Wemo switches appeared to have first operated in that manner. I’m not sure if they were affected by a firmware upgrade, but once they start acting up, a lot of time-consuming web searches and debugging are required. The Kasa iOS app appears to be well done, and their website is tidy and filled with useful content.

Normally, I don’t grade items like this before *a lot* of usage. I’m saying this is a quality product after having a few of these online for more than a year. Kasa plugs just do the job; we are using other brands of the same kind of gadget as well, but we won’t mention them.
